Screeching halt!

My birthday weekend started out innocently enough. Dinner with hubby and great friends... fun drinks, tasty food and hilarious conversation!

We spent the following day at a birthday party for Reagan's dear friend, much to her amazement at hitting the pinata!

We spent that night celebrating with family~ Reagan loved playing with her cousins!

And then *BAM* On Sunday morning, Reagan woke up with a 103.4 fever and spent the week battling what the Dr.'s (think) was strep and bronchitis. Thanks to Reagan's gramma's for helping us nurse her back to health! xo

I still remember this song they taught us in grade school about making friends. I never pass up the opportunity to make new friends! You never know how they will enrich your life...

This past Saturday night we accepted a dinner invitation to one of Andy's coworker's house for dinner. We had been saying, 'we need to get together' and I'm so glad we finally connected and set a date. They have an adorable 9 month old little boy named Zeb, who Rea loved playing with... or should I say, loved testing her 'sharing' skills with. :)

Dinner was an amazing recipe that had us going back for seconds and me needing the recipe... and after we finished off the night with brownie sundaes, we enjoyed watching the kids hang out. Thanks to the Lumley's for a great night!

Cousin Lovin

For the past 2 weekends, peanut has been lovin her cousin time. Last weekend we headed north and peanut was spoiled by her out of town cousins. Last night we had a sleepover at our place with buddy and sissy, peanut's (local) cousins. Peanut is blessed to have so many cousins that love her!

Thanks to the recent holiday, I got to experience being a SAHM for the day. Nothing beats toddler snuggles with a hot cup of coffee to start the day. We then met our friends for some pizza and spent the afternoon at Backyard Adventures.

Seriously- how did I not think of this concept? Build a bunch of play sets and charge for kids to come play on them. Indoors. In Iowa. Genius!

Rea had a blast hanging with her friends and even though we forfeited a nap, I'm so glad I got to spend the day with my toddler.

If you know me, you know that all I do is sweat the small stuff.

Things don't go according to plan? Nails on a chalkboard I say. So when a few household travesties occurred, coupled with adult flu and toddler flu, my sanity took a nosedive. Thankfully for me, my parents have 'super hero' radar and headed down south to help us out.

My mom, peanut and I did some retail therapy while in just a few short hours, my step dad and Andy fixed our money pit.

*Garage door now works (peanut learned a new vocab last week, not toddler friendly)

*New light sensor installed in the garage so we (and by we, I mean I) don't have to worry about breaking my neck trying to reach for the light switch

*New picture hung in the family room

*Favorite light socket above the kitchen sink fixed

*Disposal cleaned out

*New piping fixed under the sink

*NEW SINK!

All is well in the W household this week, we're on the mend... no appliances are acting out in defiance, and I'm reminding myself to not sweat the small stuff.

I realized that I don't do resolutions. For me, it's just setting myself up for failure. Sure I can attest to setting mini goals but to actually call it a resolution, nope. I do however, love looking back over the year and being so thankful for all that we have been given. Good health, jobs that provide for our family and amazing family and friends supporting us throughout the journey.

Celebrating Christmas~ Part 3

We spent Christmas day with the W side of the family. It was bittersweet this year as Andy's grandpa couldn't be with us (physically), but we know he was with us in spirit. We enjoyed the day watching the kids play and catching up with each other.

And in true customary Christmas fashion, I ate my weight in sweets. Oh I know, you're all SO surprised. :)

It was the perfect ending to the Christmas holiday.

We celebrated Christmas up north yesterday~ Peanut got to see G&G K., her Aunt's and Uncle's and cousins. We even had a sweet visit to see Great Gramma W. at the nursing home. Even though she can't speak, I could see it in her eyes and her smile- she knew who we were and was so happy that we came to visit.

As always, we had the tastiest food/drinks and enjoyed the best company! We are so thankful for our family and friends and the time we get to spend together. Merry Christmas!

Sometimes I'm in the mood for a whirlwind weekend... and that's exactly what we got last weekend!

Friday night:

Christmas with the Stinson's! Drew, Adrian and Jules were in town so we knew we had to get the girls together to exchange their Christmas gifts. Reagan was ecstatic to see Jules and loved her new back pack and books! It was great to catch up and so cute to watch Reagan and Jules play together.

After peanut went to bed the guys were on babysitting duty. Nette and I headed to New Year's Eve! A cute movie but heavy on the cheese. My vote- skip the theater experience and rent it on DVD. It was great to hang with my girl though~ thanks Nette! Mama needed her girl time!

Saturday:

After some last minute Christmas shopping, a hair appt. and a birthday party for Reagan's bestie Karly, Andy and I had a date night planned for his work Christmas party. Thanks to Uncle Scotty, Aunt B, Buddy and Sissy for watching peanut for us. (Of course she had a blast and wasn't ready to come home)

Andy and I also enjoyed our date night with our good friends Lisa and Justin!

Sunday:

Peanut's first movie!! We headed to the Muppet's with our dear friends Jen and Jackson. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but Reagan acted like a pro. She snuggled right in and kept asking through preview after preview, 'Where are the Muppet's?'

About half way through, she got a little antsy but made it until 5 minutes before the ending. She was over it and no amount of Muppet Love could settle her. So... we ended up watching the ending near the door but it was okay. She made it further than I expected and she loved it! I see more movies in our future.

Last Thursday, a group of us girls gathered for the annual, 'Christmas in the Junction.'

Cue beautiful snowflakes, not so bad temps, wine samples with hors d'oeuvres, and lots of laughter! We had a great time shopping and sipping, munching and catching up. If you're in the area, Christmas in the Junction is a must-do. Horse-drawn carriage rides, Santa and Mrs. Claus... and did I mention wine?

We had a great time and vow to make this a new annual tradition! Tis the season!

So someone once told me it takes 6 weeks to make a habit. I am scientific proof that that statement is not true.

I've been working out for approximately 9 and 1/2 weeks and I could still take it or leave it. Preferably leave it. I dread the gym.

"Oh exercise gives you so much energy." I'm exhausted!

"Oh you'll learn to love it." Okay, and when exactly will that be? The year 2021?

Let's recap:

Lbs lost- 13.8

What's working: As long as our weeks are completely free and devoid of all social activity and peanut goes to bed on time, then yes- I do get to the gym and work my tail off.

What's not working: It's holiday season! We have (fun!) plans every week, Christmas goodies to eat and let's face it, it's dark by 4 p.m. and on top of that COLD. Who wants to go out at night?!

Despite my 'Debbie Downer' attitude, I do have to keep myself accountable. I'm tracking all food/exercise in a Fitbook. So not only is it in my head that I'm off the wagon, there is written proof. Gah.

Let's hope the next 9 and 1/2 weeks go better. And by 'better' I mean the ladies working the front desk at the gym should know me by name.

Jolly Holiday Lights!

We hopped in the car and headed to see the lights Saturday night with Reagan. We've taken her every year but this year was by far the best. Every light, she asked, 'what's that one mommy?' and 'what's that one daddy?' She loved the lights and the tunnels were her favorite!

A definite Christmas tradition and the best part, all proceeds go to the Make A Wish Foundation. Love!

Decorating the Christmas tree~ Peanut's response, 'Ooooohhh, pretty!' She helped by adding a couple ornaments and then got bored. Much more fun to pile blankets and pillows on the sofa and jump from cushion to cushion.

Christmas candy! I discovered this last year and loved it. I cried when my can ran out mid March and it was nowhere to be found. I was smarter this year and stocked up. Who doesn't love Christmas candy in July??

I love this time of year, especially with a toddler. I'm so thankful for our everyday blessings and am reminded that this is the time to give back.

Peanut helped pick out a present for the Boys Home that we support through work and we'll also donate a toy for Toys for Tots. She loves the red kettles too so the next time we hear the bell, I'm going to give her money to put in the kettle. It's never too young to teach charitable giving.

She may know that Santa brings presents but she'll also know the true meaning of Christmas. xoxo

Thankful...

We have so much to be thankful for this year. Good health, jobs that provide for us, and most importantly, family and friends that love and support us. We are so blessed~

We spent thanksgiving up north this year and had a great time hanging out with G&G K, Aunts/Uncles and cousins... peanut never stopped moving (or laughing)! The weather was perfect for an afternoon walk and play time at the local park. And peanut gets to have a sleepover while Andy and I have date night tomorrow night- thanks G&G K.!

The Switch

I have a switch. The 'diet' switch.

When it's on, it's really ON.

But when it's off... it's 'OMGshe'seatingPillsburyproductsforeverymeal' off. Results are disastrous.

Thankfully, for the past few weeks my switch has been kinda, sorta on. The kinda sorta on that keeps pushing me to the gym and bypassing vendo land at work.

The stats (since October 3rd):

Pounds lost: 12

What I'm doing right: I've worked really hard to increase my workouts at the gym. It helps that peanut has an early bed time and that I can DVR all my favorite prime time shows for later viewing. Because honestly, if it weren't for the DVR, we all know this wouldn't be happenin. So- my goal is four days a week for at least an hour. Last week I managed six days a week and still lived to tell about it. Go figure.

What I'm doing wrong: Okay seriously people. Who can survive on only 1800 calories a day??!! Food has always been my issue. I love it- love the taste, the textures, the amazingiest (yes, I said it) that is fast food. I am really working on this aspect though, hence the switch that is turned on.

My goals this week (since ya'll know turkey day is the day of reckoning for peeps like me): Try really really really hard not to eat my weight in desserts. Get to the gym four days for an hour- and yes, this is doable even though there is a holiday in there and don't let me use that as an excuse!

Now, if only my switch had a dimmer.

Despite the chill in the air, the cool morning breeze and the fact that peanut doesn't like (dress up) clothes, I think the pics turned out well. Julie was a trooper because once Reagan found out she knew the theme song to Dora, she was demanding that Julie sing on cue. Seriously- the only way we could get a smile out of peanut. That and bribing with fruit snacks. Ah... the toddler life.

Reagan put on her costume and knew what to do! I was thinking we'd be lucky if we did a neighbor's house or two but she took off and loved every minute of it. The weather helped as it was clear and warm out. She said 'trick or treat' and 'happy halloween' and 'tank you!' at every house and knew that each piece of candy went into her special pumpkin. Her pumpkin that eventually got too heavy to carry!

Thanks to G&G W., Auntie B and Uncle Scotty, Buddy and sissy and Aunt Nette for coming over to enjoy the festivities!

Today, baby girl, you are 2 years old! Your daddy and I could never have predicted the immense joy that you bring into our lives each and every day. Your giggles, your belly laughs, even your teaful cries tug at our hearts and fill them with love.

You were such a happy baby and you are such a happy toddler! You love to play outside, exploring the rocks on the driveway, helping mommy get the mail, playing with the neighbors. You love being at daycare and playing with your friends. You love seeing your cousins and mimicking their every move.

The highlights: An 8 hour birthday party with family and friends... what more could you ask for?! The unmentionables: Peanut was so not interested in sitting for her cake, nor opening any presents after the first one. But hey, that's toddler life, right?

The weather was a perfect sunny and 70 degrees... we got out the chalk and bubbles and made magic. Everyone talked and laughed and ate and ate and laughed and talked... it was just as I had imagined it.

Anticipation

As we get older, do we ever really lose the 'OMG it's the night before Christmas?!' feeling? You know the one- where you go to bed late because you're just so excited for the morning to come... and then you get up early because you're so excited for the day to start?

I have that feeling. I haven't lost it. Today, we celebrate peanut's 2nd birthday!!

It's more than just a birthday party.

It's a testament to the journey we've had that has brought us here... our struggle to be parents, our joy when it actually happened and now to celebrate the life that is our little angel. I'm most excited to see her reaction- to the balloons, the cake, having her friends and family over to celebrate with her...

I'm so thankful for the amazing 2 year ride that we've had so far and the future ride we're about to embark upon. Now, let's party!

I'm getting ready to sign Reagan up for Tumble Tots at the gym. She keeps trying to do a somersault on the pavement. I think a soft mat would encourage her more, don't you think?

With the weather forecast expected to be in the 80's and sunny, Jen, Karin and I packed up the kiddos and headed to the pumpkin patch! Despite the crowds, the heat and the dust, we had a great time (the homemade ice cream helped!).

Reagan's favorite was the swing (repeat from last year) and this year was hard to remember that we had to 'take turns with the other toddlers'. I think she is definitely ready for her own big girl swing set in the back yard!

She loved the hay ride too and unlike last year, was ready to jump on and keep going!

A great way to spend a Sunday! Here are a few pics:

Another successful trip to Okoboji... Was it different with a toddler? Yes- but different in a good way. We got to see Reagan bond with her G&G's, cousins and Aunt B and Uncle Scotty. We've planted the seed of family memories and will grow them year after year.

The weather was perfect- high 70's and sunny every day. We went swimming, shopping, did some light eating (ha! does everything fried count as light?!) and the guys got to golf. We put our feet up, watched the kiddos and laughed!

23 months and growing...

Last Tuesday, Reagan turned 23 months and growing!

We were on vacation last week~ I wondered how it would go, a week in a condo at the lake. Last year I thought, 'It'll be great when Reagan can walk!'

This year I thought, 'Remember how great it was when Reagan couldn't walk?' :) Never happy, right?

She actually did really well. A toddler cooped up in a 2 bedroom condo at the lake was probably not the first thing on her 'toddler to-do list.' But her one saving grace was: Cousins! Buddy and sissy saved the day and the 3 amigos had a great time hanging out together.

I'll follow up with a vacation post later- but for now, some peanut updates:

Her talking and vocab has really increased. She is putting more words together and sounds hilarious when she talks like an adult. "Look at me!" "Come over here and play!" "I love you so much mommy!" "See you soon!"

On the food front, we got a little off track with vacation. That's how it goes though right? Lots of Juice, fruit snacks, chips and string cheese were her favorites. She absolutely devours blueberries and prefers them frozen. We've said good-bye to whole milk and that has really helped with her digestive issues. She loves milk so it helps that we can give it to her now at every meal without worrying about the consequences.

Her favorite word by far is 'vitamin.' She gets 1 a day and that's a hard concept for her to understand but she's getting it. She is now back to loving bath time and loves to brush her teeth. She can help dress/undress herself and would stay in her PJ's all day if we let her.

She's doing great with her numbers, shapes and colors and knows that her 'birfday' is coming up and when you ask her how old she's going to be, she proudly exclaims '2!' while holding up her thumb and pointer finger. :)

22 Months and growing...

Reagan turned 22 months last Saturday!

On Monday she gave me a shocker with an actual full sentence: "Don't do that!" As she wagged a finger in my face... and I laughed. I couldn't help myself.

She also loves to say:

"Please"
"Tank you"
"Lub you!"
"I do it."
"Come on mommy!"
"Watch Dora"
"Let's go downstairs" (yes, where she gets to watch Dora)
"Comehere" (not a typo, it really does come out as one word) :)

She loves to say the days of the week and does pretty good counting to 10. Every day when I pick her up from daycare we do roll call of all her friends, cousins, G&G's, mommy and where daddy is *at work.*

She has such a fun personality. Andy got home late Thursday night from a work trip so I said to her, 'tell daddy what you had for dinner.' And she did. She rattled off everything she had eaten that night. Usually she just repeats what we say so... this was kinda a big deal.

We had a little glitch with bath time but that seems to be under control now. No more tears... She is doing better with veggies- she just gets tired of using her fork so we help.

She is putting on her own shoes and I can just see the day drawing near when she doesn't want to wear what I have picked out for her and instead, chooses her own outfit. She loves playing 'makeup' with my makeup drawer and some days have to tell people- no, that's not a bruise. It's blue eye shadow. Definitely a girly girl!

I'm a little late with this post but Reagan had her first haircut on Thursday, August 11th. She was not too sure about the whole thing, which is why I came prepared with gummy bunnies (aka Treat!)- they did the trick! And her hairdresser was on the ball- we were in and out in under 10 minutes!

Whew! Another whirlwind weekend... those are the best!

Friday night:

Cousin time! Jackie spent the night with us and Reagan was loving it- she was in mimic mode- anything 'buddy' did, she was doing it too!

So sweet~ Jackie loved reading books to Reagan... we also enjoyed Rango! Cute movie.

Saturday we spent some time at Incredible Pizza! Both kiddos were so good- they loved checking everything out~

21 Months and growing...

The days got away from me... last Wednesday, Reagan was 21 months and growing!

And growing she is... I'm praying and hoping that all her 24 month clothes I bought on mega sales for this coming fall will still fit her this coming fall!

She is such a little helper- give her any command and she gladly accepts. (Yes I know this will change when she's 13.)

Give her a wipe and your kitchen floor will be spotless...along with her feet, hands and 'mouf.'

She is loving 'bubble bathssss' and carrying her baby around while pushing her shopping cart. She sits longer for stories and promptly knows all the shapes on her shape toy. We are working on colors and counting- she loves to count but does not like to start with the number '1.'

Her eating has changed some since she's teething and lately prefers soft fruit and hummus with pita chips. Oh and don't forget her favorite- pizza! Her favorite word is 'apple juice.' A true toddler at heart. :)

She loves a good 'pawty' where she can see and play with her friends or cousins... and I'm really hoping she's going to be a people-person. She loves a good tickle and a good laugh- I can't believe her birthday is just around the corner. Someone is going to have to talk me off the ledge.

My mojo is off. I haven't been to the gym. I'm eating like I'm 9 months pregnant (no worries, I'm not). I'm questioning my 'parental abilities' as peanut moves closer to the Terrible Two's. I'm worrying about family's health, friend's health, and my own health.

I'm thinking I need a good 'ol dose of gratitude. I need to practice a random act of kindness. I need to count my daily blessings and trust that this too shall pass...

Evidently, peanut's itty bitty toe toes have been growing... and promptly grew over the top of her sandals I had deemed sandals that would last her all season. Experienced mother's everywhere are shaking their heads at me, 'Oh silly- don't you know toddler feet grow by the week?'

So I found some cute toddler shoes on a great sale and peanut loved them. Okay, really she loved the box- but didn't have any complaints about the new shoes either.

What a difference a year makes! Comparing 4th of July pics from last year to this year... *insert sob here* My toddler is growing up!

This year we headed over to our friend's the Harrison's for their 4th of July party. Then we met the Larsen's and Dilk's for fireworks. Reagan was a trooper- she took a quick catnap on the way to our viewing site and then was wide awake for the action! She LOVED the fireworks and kept saying 'Whoa!' and 'Wow!'

20 Months and growing...

Yesterday Reagan was 20 months and growing!

Another month flown by... this has been an interesting past few weeks for us. Since peanut's daycare provider was on maternity leave, me, Gramma K., Gramma W. and Andy all rallied to take our turn watching peanut. She loved every minute of it but it did mean... off routine, one on one attention and getting her way all. the. time. What 20 month old wouldn't love that?

She (we) are slowly getting back into the swing of things this week. She absolutely loves being back at daycare and loves being with her 'buddies.' A HUGE thank you to the Gramma's for making it even possible that Andy and I still have jobs. Peanut loves her some 'Gramma time' like nobody's business!

She continues to work on colors, animal sounds, numbers and (Andy's favorite) days of the week. We are working on 2-3 word combinations and her fave's are: No Way! My Turn! Go potty! It's hot!

Speaking of potty... we have introduced the concept but so far she is only on board with sitting on the potty fully clothed, then promptly shutting the toilet lid and flushing. Loves to flush! Side note: wonder if that will affect our water bill?! :)

She loves anything daddy has cooked on the grill- pork chops, chicken, turkey and pork loin, turkey burgers and hot dogs. She still doesn't like potatoes and prefers rice instead. We have noticed she isn't gobbling up those green veggies like she used to and prefers fruit now, but we're working on it.

It's amazing what she learns every day. She is so aware of her surroundings and how we act/react..to her and to others. I love this age where her parents are still her biggest hero's and when she can't fall asleep at night, we rock all snuggled up with her little fingers holding onto my thumb.

19 Months and growing...

Last Friday, Reagan turned 19 months! We had her well child visit today and all looks good!

She is measuring 46% for weight at 24 lbs and 14 oz. She is measuring 92% for height at 33 inches. She was quite vocal in her distaste for the doctor and his stethoscope, as well as for the nurse and her shot but she recovered well. She kept saying 'all done' so they knew she had had enough of the visit. :)

Favorite foods: She loves blueberry waffles, mixed berries, peas and carrots, pears, pizza and Popsicles!

Words: Mommy, Daddy, Dora, Sponge Bob, Reagan, Buddy (for her cousin Jackson), all done, let's go, what you doin, Wub you (Love you), bye bye, night night, truck!, car, kitty, puppy, and loves to repeat whatever she hears us say. Her favorite saying right now is "It's MY turn!" Which is lovely when she wants the remote or my cell phone.

We are working on colors- she does pretty good with yellow, orange, green and sometimes red/blue. She is loving her puzzles and does really well with them. Still loves reading books- Little People Farm, Dora, Brown Bear, and Chicka Chicka Boom Boom are her favorites.

She had her first sprinkler experience at her cousin's this weekend and I think it's time we break one out in the backyard. Here are some recent pics, enjoy!

It's that time of year folks... Andy's annual birthday celebration at Rube's! Where, yes- year after year, we throw down a wad of cash to cook our own dinner. Go figure.

But one sweet little taste of the steaks Rube's has to offer will have you wanting to go back year after year. And we do! Since Andy and I have been together (2002), we've only missed Rube's once. If not for the steaks, at least go for the humongous brownie sundae piled high with whipped cream and a cherry!

My mother's day gift from peanut! A hand painted flower pot with flower. *swoon* Her daycare provider did help a smidge but said that Reagan gave a good effort with the paint brush. I think she'll have Andy's artistic abilities as I have NONE.

Three words: Mister Car Wash

Lemme get this straight. I sit in a pleasant, freshly smelling, air conditioned room eating (FREE) popcorn and drinking (FREE) coffee while a bunch of guys and gals spiffy up, not only the inside, but the outside of my car in under 20 minutes for around $8???

Let the record show. If, at retirement age, I am left broke and desolate, I blame Mister Car Wash.

If you have yet to experience a Jason's Deli, grab your car keys and head to one immediately. They are amazing... free mini muffins that'll rock your socks off. Free ice cream... free garlic bread...a bunch of free stuff that comes with your meal. Did I mention a lot of added free bonus items when you buy an entree??

"Oh Jason's Deli... you had me at my 10th mini muffin." I'll be back. And next time I'll be smart enough to bring Ziploc baggies with me. What?? They're for the mini muffins.

4 Years...

Four years... since I married my best friend. In front of all our family and friends... and have been blessed to spend my life with the best husband a girl could ever wish for. We decided to spend our anniversary in KC this year as Andy had a work trip. This has been the routine for the past few years and it's the perfect getaway city for us. We had a great time!

(Yes, I am including a picture of a salad in my blog post so next year I can remember what I must order again.) Room Service is a glorious thing my friends- it even makes SALAD taste good! This was the best cobb salad and bread puddin I've ever had. Include a chick flick on HBO, a chilled soda, and an air conditioned hotel room with a fabulous view of KC- and you have one happy girl!

Anniversary dinner out on the town!

On a recommendation for a great pizza, we hit up Rosati's- and weren't disappointed! Notice it is JUST as large as a piece of furniture. The 'family double' was ordered and devoured!

In true cookie connoisseur fashion, technically they are not as 'carmelly' (yes, I did just make up the word carmelly) as the Girl Scout Samoa's but they'll do. Oh yes, they'll do.

18 Months and growing...

Today Reagan is 18 months and growing! She doesn't have her 18 month well child check-up until the end of May so not sure of her current stats. But based on her clothes, she's growing!

She loves to jabber and is so serious at times! She really thinks you should understand every word she says and looks at you like, 'right mom?' We are working on colors- she has yellow down pat and green is a close 2nd. We are also working on zoo/farm animal sounds. So far, her favorite is to 'neigh' like a horse. Her "I do it," has become more demanding but she always has a smile and a "Hi daddy!" for her dad. Definitely a daddy's girl. :)

Some new favorite foods: Tator tot casserole, quesadilla from Chipotle with black beans, Lima beans, strawberries, water chestnuts, watermelon, and ham (coated in brown sugar glaze has to help, right?). She is still a great eater and usually will try anything once. Still has her old standbys of eggs and toast for breakfast, spaghetti casserole at daycare and Mega noodle with 2 veggies and applesauce for dinner. Last week, Andy tried to give her a bite of cookie and she pushed it away. Gasp! She is my child, right?! But then she redeemed herself by gorging on chocolate, marshmallows, and animal crackers on Easter. :)

Her daycare provider reports great developmental strides with various tasks- she can follow through with directions, recognizes each child by name, plays well with others and loves her books! We are so blessed to have found such a wonderful caregiver for peanut!

We were all dressed up for a friend's baby shower tonight so I snagged a couple shots- on my wish list, a new camera so I can actually capture my baby smiling again without waiting minutes for the picture to take!

We hosted Easter this year at our place and despite the clouds and cool temps, had a cozy day full of warm fuzzies from our family and friends! Peanut's G&G W, Great G&G W, Auntie B, Uncle Scottie, Cousins Jackie and Evie and Godparent's Nette and Davy and sissy Belli all joined us for Easter day fun!

We feasted on ham, turkey, potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, appetizers, chocolate, somewhere in there a mimosa (or two!) and pies for dessert. Eat your heart out Easter bunny!

We blew bubbles, made designs with sidewalk chalk, colored, played croquet, sand bags and had an Easter egg hunt in the family room! No wonder it took peanut until today to recover!

We are so thankful to our family and friends who could celebrate the day with us. Love you all! xoxo

A few months ago, as my birthday was drawing near, it occurred to me that this year, I was in a new age bracket. Oh you know the one, age 35-40 on every survey ever filled out.

So I decided it was high time for a girl's weekend! Nette was on board and our idea hatched to spend a weekend in Sedona with one of her coworkers (Kim) and her bestie (Debbie). Plane tickets were bought, spa reservations were made and this past weekend we had an amazing time in Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Sedona! *****

We arrived Thursday and the heat hit me like fifty lashes with a wet noodle. The cure? Margaritas! And some of the best Mexican food I've experienced. We spent the night at Kim's (amazing) house complete with pool, orange trees and adorable dogs/pet turtle! *****

Friday we headed up North to Sedona. After catching lunch at a really cool brewery, we headed off to our prearranged hike with our spiritual advisor, Clint. Turned out, five hours later we were bonded over nature, a medicine wheel experience, and the utter relaxation hiking this land makes you feel. Wonderful. Friday night we ventured out for martini's and sushi, pool and wine. *****

Saturday started bright and early with our spa treatments. Hot stone massage? BLISS. We then spent a couple hours by the pool and had lunch. Saturday afternoon was spent touring wineries and Saturday night was the best dinner the town had to offer. We topped off the night with some light dancing at Olde Sedona Bar. *****

Sunday started with a hike and another amazing breakfast... we experienced building rocks at a vortex and taking in the amazing scenery. We caught a flight back home and reality set in when we touched down in DSM and my capri's suddenly were not quite right for the 40 degree temps! *****

17 Months and Growing...

Today, peanut is 17 months and growing... Favorite words: Elmo, mommy, daddy, Pooh, Moo, Meow, MINE and has started two word combinations- what doing (what are you doing), come on, Hi daddy, Let go (Let's go). She is also full on jabber and loves to talk in her crib when she is supposed to be napping. It's so cute to hear over the monitor. Favorite foods: bean and cheese enchiladas, broccoli, corn, peas, mega noodles from Campbell's, applesauce, oh and anything Andy and I are eating. And did I mention all things chocolate?! The knee walking is finally retired! Peanut is full-on walking now and even likes to run around the family room. She is growing more attached to her blankie and loves having a toy to carry around, aka old cell phones or toy bottles. She still loves reading books and has started to share her toy ba ba (bottle) with her 'babies'. We have been working on body parts- so far she can point out her eyes, nose, mouth, belly and toes. She recently discovered her belly button which brings fits of laughter when she inserts her pointer finger into it. We are working on ears, hair and hands. She loves to look out the kitchen door for 'birdies' and gets so excited when she sees one. She is definitely NOT a morning person and I'm secretly hoping that changes before she starts school. She loves to sleep in and needs her morning sippy of milk before she is ready to start her day. Here are some pics from the past couple weeks, enjoy! Say 'cheese!' Good til the last drop!

Everyone has that one little thing... after a bad day, impending road rage, or trying to eat a candy bar while driving and bits of chocolate land in your lap and instantly melts and you think how in the world am I going to get melted chocolate stains out...that just stops them in their tracks and let's you breathe.....

God gave me dogs in cars.

It never fails- after I've had a bad day... feel road rage coming on.... or am eating chocolate in the car and making a mess, I look over and there is ALWAYS a dog in a car, doing their dog in a car thing... and I smile.

Something so little makes me feel so good and calm and at peace.

I love it because they look SO happy. They don't have a care in the world except feeling the wind blow in their face.

Oh how I love my toddler!

Reagan is learning so many new things each day... it's so fun that we can give her a direction and she can follow through!

Conversations with a toddler:

Me: "Reagan, are you ready to go night night?"
Reagan: *sweet toddler voice while shakes head back and forth* "No."

Me: *reading a book to Reagan, flipping pages*
Reagan: "I do it."

Me: "Reagan, what does a cow say?"
Reagan: "Mooooo"

Her new word this week is 'snack' and Lord knows my baby loves her some snacks! :)
