Pumpkin Patch 2012

We needed a fun activity to take our minds off the heavy things this week so we headed to the local pumpkin patch...I didn't know we lived so close to one (thanks Nette for discovering!) and bonus points: admission was free!

Rea loved the big tire swing and the corn kernel pit.  We walked through the hay bale maze and checked out the animals in the barn area, to which Rea exclaimed, "Get me outta this stinky barn!"  She's a city kid, what can I say?!

Thanks to Aunt Nette, Aunt Belli and Belli's friend Carly for a great time!  Can't wait to go again next year.

Headin out in the field to pick out a pumpkin:

The goats were... uh, friendly.

We found the perfect one!

Dancing in the corn kernels:

Playing in the hay:

Tractor ride.  That lasted all of one minute since Rea decided she didn't like bumpy rides.

And right as we were leaving, the sky opened up and the windmill began to turn... and it reminded me of my grandparents farm growing up.  I knew our guardian angel was with us.

Guardian Angel

We gained a guardian angel tonight as my dear sweet Grandma left her life here on earth to rest in Heaven.

She lived a long cherished life and to know her, was to love her.  In all of my 36 years, I never once heard my grandma raise her voice, be mad or yell at us grandkids.  She called us 'pills' in the most endearing way if we were acting out and always had sweets in the cupboard (chocolate covered cherries were one of her faves!).  She made the best cheese toast I've ever tasted and always said, "no matter what, it was going to be okay."

We will miss you Grandma but we know you are in a better place, doing the waltz with Grandpa.
Love,
Your Favorite

You will always be remembered...

Okoboji 2012

It's that time of year...when the leaves start to change, the temps start to drop and we head to the lake!

I needed the breather.  The chance to unwind.... put our feet up....sip a mimosa before noon, eat lots and lots of bacon and maybe a pancake or two.  We played games, went boating, shopped, swam in the outdoor and indoor heated pools, laughed til our bellies hurt and had a GREAT vacation.

P.S. Can I go back and do it all over again next week?

A big thank you to G&G K. who took Rea back home with them for a few days so mama and daddy could enjoy couple time.  Even though I really missed my baby girl, couple time rocked!

A big thank you to G&G W. who even though it was their vacation too, watched peanut for us throughout the week.

I also got a special surprise this year.  My very first year of going to Okoboji with Andy and his family was in 2003. Afterwards, I wrote a thank you note to his parents that referenced me looking forward to the day when we could bring our own children to the lake. They kept the note. Had it framed. And included a sweet family pic of me, Andy and Rea. It was so dear and so thoughtful. I can't wait to hang it in our Okoboji bathroom!
