Reagan had a planned sleepover with her cousins on Friday night so Nette, being the creative girl that she is, planned a special 'Mission Impossible' trip for the guys (and us!) including: fun clues, various stops in Central Iowa and adding in a 'precursor' to our Vegas trip in September, all for good measure!
So the 4 of us loaded up the Rover and headed out for a road trip across Central Iowa. We had a blast and soon discovered you don't have to leave the state to have an amazing night out with friends!
Getting ready to head out:
Our first stop: The Wooden Nickel in Bondurant
Here we met up with Annette's Aunt and her best friend for a couple pre-dinner drinks and good old fashioned bar popcorn. We put a few quarters in the Juke box and the fun began!
Beautiful scenery on the way to Marshalltown:
Here we discovered little Mexico and the best part of the night; Carnitas! For anyone as clueless as I was, it's the best pork money can buy. Let's just say it is humanly possible to eat your weight in pork. I tried and I succeeded. The margarita's were cheap and tasty as were the beef tacos! A must-try if you're in the area!
We knew they were open late on a Friday night due to a class reunion. We naturally assumed we'd be crashing a reunion where we were the youngest folks in attendance, however, it turned out to be the Class of 2005! Ah, to be 23 again. :)
Obviously I didn't win big otherwise you would have all received a frantic phone call by now with me screaming into the phone at decibels only dogs could hear. We had fun dancing to Final Mix, not so much fun losing a little moola and then decided it was time to head back to Des Moines!
Reagan and I enjoyed some girl time shopping with Adrian and Jules. Since the temp's were reaching 100 degrees outside, what better way to pass the time than at the mall!
Happy birthday Alyce!
We all met at Chuck's Restaurant to celebrate Alyce's birthday with pizza and lasagna. And salad, and bread with butter, and onion rings, and later on that night...cake, ice cream... and oh wait, I really need to call my Weight Watcher leader and confess my sins.
But we had a great time hanging out with the family and got home before the crazy storm hit!
Sunday: We realized some siding had blown off our house during the storm. As I type, I can hear Andy on the roof with our neighbor trying to repair the damage. Peanut slept right through the storms amazingly enough and we can report with a sigh of relief, no other major damage occurred.
What a great weekend we had with family and friends! Hope everyone had a good weekend!
