Recovery

We've had a pretty rough week while Reagan recovers from surgery.

The side effects of being under, in addition to her icky meds, has not been fun.  She experienced night terrors and loss of appetite all week. There is nothing worse than seeing your child suffer. But I know this too shall pass.  In fact, we may have turned a corner.  Reagan woke up full of energy today, dressed herself and declared she was ready for church...so here's hoping the worst is behind us.

So many thanks for all the packages, visits, babysitting from grandparents and nurse house calls from Aunt Nette.  They have all helped!

Prayers Answered

Reagan had her new set of tubes put in, tonsils and adenoids taken out this past Friday. We wanted to ensure plenty of recovery time before school started and the Dr. didn't want us to wait until Christmas break. I'm so relieved it's over!

Reagan was such a champ from the moment she woke up, even through the surgery and after care. She didn't cry once, not even when they took out the IV.  The actual surgery only lasted about 20 minutes but we were in the recovery room for almost 3 hours.

Recovery at home has been a little on the rough side. She's in pain, which I hate seeing her like that. She doesn't have much of an appetite for ice cream or Popsicles and really really really hates the taste of her meds so we're trying as best as we can.  Her Aunt B gave us a tip to add a touch of sugar and that does seem to help!  They told us the first couple days will be hard so hoping after today she'll be her old happy self again.

The hardest part will be no outside play for 2 weeks and only soft foods... didn't realize how much she liked crunchy food until she couldn't have it! But we're hanging in there-Thanks for all the prayers, they worked!

Firsts~ Back to School Night

Reagan had her first 'Back to School Night' last Thursday at her new school.  She was so excited!

We saw her cousins, lots of friends and neighbors and she loved seeing her classroom!  She wasn't able to meet her new teacher quite yet since there were some last minute staffing changes but her home visit should be coming up in the next couple of weeks.

Once again it makes me so thankful for our 'village.'  Without grandparents, Aunts and Uncles and neighbors willing to help us out with transportation, it wouldn't be possible for Reagan to attend.  We are so grateful.

Can't wait to see what the school year has in store for Reagan... and to hear all her stories!

Prepping for Surgery

Well I think we are ready for Reagan's surgery this week.  New nightgown bought: check. Popsicles bought: check. Blood drawn: check!

One of the hardest things for me is seeing Reagan be scared or in pain, as I'm sure it is for every mama with their Little.  Reagan had her pre-surgery appt. on Friday and while she did have fun spinning on the doctor's chair and looking at all his fancy equipment, the blood draw was not so much. But we survived and she's been cleared for surgery. It helps that there is an Orange Leaf a couple blocks from the doctor's office as well.  Post appt. treat!

I'm praying for a quick effective surgery and a smooth recovery. Here's to ice cream, juice and popsicles!

She's growing up...

We've hit some big milestones this weekend... I feel like Reagan is growing up overnight!

Buckling herself in:
We've worked for weeks on this and finally, this weekend, it 'clicked.'

She figured out how to use both hands and buckle herself in. This was on my 'worry' list for fall since she'll have transportation, other than Andy and myself, from daycare to school.  I wanted her to be self sufficient and I think we'll be just fine.

Conquering the big kid swing- usually at parks and on her own swing set, she favors the baby swing. No longer as her interest has turned to the big kid swing. And she pumps her legs! She could swing for hours...

Riding her big girl bike! We practiced all Saturday morning and she is really doing a good job pushing those pedals.

I

And the biggest milestone to date....leaving her coveted bunny and blankie at home! Usually they follow us wherever we go but she agreed to leave them at home this weekend.  Much success!

Our baby is growing up... *sniff sniff*
